Project Engineer, Development and Construction

The development and construction vertical of a local, San Diego based Life Science Developer is looking for a Project Engineer to join their team.
The Project Engineer will focus on coordinating various entitlement, design and construction related activities both on-site and off-site including directing, organizing, and controlling project activities. Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Project Engineer manages field coordination, project documentation and contracts, and provides support on project schedules, budgets, job cost.

Responsibilites

  • Preparation of critical and/or confidential information

  • Contract preparation and coordination with A/E teams and GC teams for approval and execution

  • Internal document management and electronic filing

  • Enter budgets into project management job cost software

  • Effectively and accurately communicate relevant project information internally and externally

  • Keep the project manager and others informed about project status and issues

  • Tracking Meeting agendas, minutes, and documents

  • Tracking Contractor RFI’s, submittals, including tracking logs

  • Tracking Schedules of Values and monthly GC Pay Applications via AIA G702-703 forms

  • Tracking contractor preliminary notices, and lien releases

  • Assist in consultant invoice review and processing

  • Draft and distribute Architect and General Contractor RFPs and manage responses bids

  • Review of GC proposals, budgets, bids and confirm take-offs, validate pricing and estimates

  • Perform review of quantity take-offs and scope analysis

  • Attend meetings and assist with key follow up and action items

  • Take meeting minutes and distribute as necessary

  • Assist in project schedule tracking and updates

  • Assist in tracking change orders and job costs

  • Track substantial completion certificates and ensure all required project close out documents are obtained

  • On-site field coordination, interface with GC teams to review progress and report back to Development staff

  • Facilitate job walks

  • Review construction progress for plan adherence and quality control

  • On-site field coordination of GC and subcontractors

  • In-depth knowledge of reading plans

  • Assist in scheduling Development staff’s meetings and coordinate calendars

  • Ensure Team’s needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner

  • General project organization and administration as needed

  • Problem solving/conflict resolution

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience supporting project managers or superintendents on active development or construction projects. Technical product experience preferred – laboratory, healthcare, medical

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

  • Highly proficient in English, grammar, punctuation, and advanced business writing skills

  • Strong verbal & written communication skills, ability to communicate clearly with both internal & external customers and at all levels within the organization

  • Knowledge of construction acumen and industry best practices

  • Positive attitude, strong initiative, and highly motivated

  • Professional appearance and communication skills

  • Highly organized

  • Intermediate level or higher in Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office

  • Bluebeam and Yardi experience preferred

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision,      prioritize and organize workload

  • Must be a team player and work well with Senior Management, staff at all levels throughout the Company, design professionals, agency staff, tenants, and other property managers, leasing managers, architects, contractors, and other daily contacts.

  • Ability to work required hours (as currently defined) and occasional evenings

  • Willing and able to travel
