VP of Finance

San Diego, CA

A full-service real estate company with additional business interests is looking for a dynamic Vice President of Finance with a proven track record of success of adding value to a company with their exceptional technical skills, advanced business acumen, and insightful relationship management. The successful candidate is intellectually curious, disciplined, honest, and confident. This position includes responsibilities for private and institutional financing, accounting, finance, taxation, forecasting, strategic planning, deal analysis and negotiations with one of the most interesting and stable companies in San Diego.


  • Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities

  • Oversee processes for financial forecasting, budgets, consolidation and management reporting

  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities

  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies, and regulatory actions

  • Participate in tax planning for domestic and international operations, as well as estate planning

  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws, and rules for financial and tax reporting

  • Oversee all accounting work and coordinate internal audit function

  • Support risk management programs of the company, including property and casualty insurance, health insurance, workers comp, etc.

  • Negotiate loans and manage key banking/lender relationships

  • Manage accounting firms and other professional service providers relationships and deliverables

  • Manage working capital requirements while maximizing sufficient liquidity

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions


  • 10 years of relevant accounting experience with progressively increasing responsibility in a leadership role

  • CPA license; Master’s degree preferred

  • Experience serving as a true business partner to members of the management team in developing and implementing solutions to their business challenges

  • Extremely knowledgeable in financial forecasting, accounting principles, and financial data analysis

  • Experience with sophisticated financings with commercial lending sources (e.g., banks, insurance companies, bond financings, or other private lenders). Real estate multi-family financing experience is a plus

  • Prefer experience in tax planning for sophisticated private companies or family offices, including international, federal & California state, property and sales tax

  • Experience managing accounting staff

  • PC proficiency is essential (Windows environment); working knowledge of Timberline is preferred

  • International experience and Spanish proficiency a plus

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential

  • Outstanding integrity, solid moral judgment, and the ability to make important decisions under pressure

  • Sophisticated financial thinker who can analyze and navigate strategic alternatives while managing to desired outcomes at appropriate levels of detail

  • Propensity to successfully maintain long-standing, and foster new, business relationships

  • Expert problem solver and decision-maker

  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written; skilled in the art of negotiation

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and delegate responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner
